It's kind of like who's to blame for being stereotyped? Is it the group that gets stereotyped or the people that perpetuate it through their ignorance? For example, when I was in high school my friends and I went to a movie theater and an acquaintance of mine brought her friend who she "warned" me about in advance and she told me he said he's okay with gay people as long as they don't hit on him. It could also be that these straight men are not interested in meeting you because they perceive that gay men will hit on them, in which case it is very much a them problem.
